Why avaTOK asks you to verify
avaTOK gates your first public action, not signup. You can create an account, browse the marketplace, watch, and book sessions without ever facing a camera. The moment you try to do something that puts you in front of other people you haven’t spoken to before — posting, creating a listing, going live, commenting, messaging or calling a stranger, joining or posting in a group, forwarding, or uploading — avaTOK asks for a quick liveness check first.
The two kinds of check
Liveness check (face scan). A short camera capture that confirms a real, living person is behind the account. It’s run through our verification partner, Didit, and is what unlocks the public actions above. It does not confirm who you are — only that you’re a real person, once.
Full identity check (document + selfie). A separate, stronger check — a government ID plus a matching selfie — used for creator and payout-related actions, where avaTOK needs more than “a real person” and needs to confirm identity against a document. This is handled by our KYC provider and is distinct from the liveness check; passing one does not automatically pass the other.
What verification unlocks
- A passed liveness check clears you to post, create a listing, go live, comment, message or call someone you haven’t spoken to before, join or post in a group, forward content, and upload media. Publishing a paid live show or 1:1 session also needs a separate identity check on your account, so you may be asked to verify your ID then.
- Full document + selfie verification is required before a payout is released — see Withdrawing your earnings and the Payouts & Withdrawals policy, section 5, for what that check covers.
- Consumers who only browse, book and watch are never asked to verify.
How long a check stays valid
A liveness pass is valid for 90 days. After that window, avaTOK will ask you to redo the check the next time you try a public action — your account and history aren’t affected, you just face the camera again.
What is collected, and how long it’s kept
Before the camera opens, you’re asked for explicit consent — the checkbox is never pre-ticked, and if you decline, nothing is captured and you can keep browsing, reading and watching. What the check actually collects, why, who can see it, and exactly how long it’s retained (including what changes once you delete your account) is set out in full in our Biometric Data Retention & Destruction Schedule. That page is the authoritative source — this article only summarises it, so if the two ever seem to disagree, the retention schedule is correct.
In short: avaTOK does not sell, use for advertising, or run facial recognition against your face scan. It’s used only to confirm a real person completed the check, and for safety and lawful-request response.
If verification fails or you’re stuck
